Installing the Hive-on-Tez User Interface

This topic describes installation of the Hive-on-Tez user interface by using the Data Fabric Installer or manual steps.

Prerequisites

IMPORTANT

EEP 9.0.0 introduced Hadoop 3.3, which uses ATSv2 by default. The Hive-on-Tez UI does not support ATSv2. You must configure ATSv1 (1.0 or 1.5) to use the Tez UI.

Before proceeding with installation, verify that the mapr-timelineserver package (ATSv2) is not installed. If it is installed, you must remove it and install mapr-timelineserverv1 instead. See Configuring ATS 1.0 or 1.5 for Hadoop 3.3 (Required for Tez UI) for the complete procedure.

Installation Using the Data Fabric Installer

When you use the Data Fabric Installer to install Tez, the timeline server for the Hive-on-Tez user interface is installed automatically. If the Enable MapR Secure Cluster option is enabled in the Data Fabric Installer, the timeline server is installed to be secure.

The Tomcat server is installed into this folder:

/opt/mapr/tez/tez-<version>/tomcat/apache-tomcat-<version>

To start using the Hive-on-Tez user interface if the Enable MapR Secure Cluster option is enabled or if the cluster is Kerberized, you must log in to the timeline server user interface:

https://<hostname>:8190

Manual Installation

To install the Hive-on-Tez user interface manually:

Install and configure mapr-tez as described in Configuring Hive and Tez.
Configure ATS 1.0 or 1.5 for Hadoop 3.3.
