Advanced Volume Configurations support in Data Fabric UI

The Data Fabric UI in HPE Data Fabric 8.2 provides advanced volume configuration parity with the Managed Control System (MCS).

Overview

In Data Fabric 8.2, the Data Fabric UI introduces native support for Advanced Volume Configurations, closing key functional parity gaps with the legacy Managed Control System (MCS). This capability centralizes storage governance, security enforcement, performance tuning, and capacity management directly within the modern web interface.

Through this feature set, administrators can configure and monitor volume-level attributes without relying on the command-line interface (maprcli) or transitioning back to MCS. Key administrative areas addressed by advanced volume configurations include:

  • Wire and Data-at-Rest Encryption: Administrators can enable or disable wire encryption (in-transit) and Data-at-Rest Encryption (DARE) during volume creation or by editing existing volume properties.
  • Granular Volume Auditing: Provides full control over audit logging modes (Disabled, By File Or Directory, or All Volume Content) and supports 41 selectable filesystem and table operations. Built-in dependency enforcement automatically selects related permissions (for example, enabling setattr automatically includes chown, chgrp, and chperm).
  • Advisory Quotas and Usage Visualization: Volumes now support advisory (soft) quotas alongside hard quotas. The volume overview provides interactive usage charts that depict active utilization against warning and limit thresholds.
  • User and Group Disk Usage: Dedicated usage tables and distribution charts display capacity consumption by user and group accounts within a volume.
  • Warm Tiering and Erasure Coding (EC): Administrators can configure warm-tier Erasure Coding schemes (including 3+2, 4+2, 5+2, and 6+3) and local parity schemes. Active tier offload and recall operations can also be canceled directly using the Abort Tier Job action.
  • Replication Monitoring: Detailed diagnostics display target minimum and maximum replication limits, name container replication, and the active distribution of data chunks from 0x to 6x.
  • Topology and Storage Labels: Volume and remote target action menus include options to change topology assignments, view storage policy details, and inspect storage labels.
  • Metrics and Metadata: Includes an edit toggle for volume metrics collection and exposes read-only metadata including volume creator, last accessed timestamp, and last access interval.
NOTE
Supporting procedural documentation and step-by-step topic updates for these procedures will be provided in an upcoming documentation update.
