Changing the Cluster Administrator password in Data Fabric UI

Starting with Data Fabric 8.2.0, you can change (rotate) the cluster administrator (mapr user) password directly from the Data Fabric UI (DFUI) after deployment.

Updating the administrator password through DFUI updates the credentials across all fabric nodes and synchronizes the secure credential vault. Subsequent lifecycle operations such as scaling, upgrading, or adding/removing services automatically consume the updated password.

Prerequisites

Before changing the cluster administrator password, verify the following:

  • No concurrent operations: Ensure that no cluster lifecycle operations (such as scale, upgrade, or service additions/removals) are actively running. The password update will be blocked if another lifecycle operation is in progress.

  • Administrative access: You must be logged in to DFUI with cluster administrative privileges.

  • Deployment credentials:

    • On-Premises deployments: You must have the host SSH credentials (ssh_username and ssh_password or SSH key) required to distribute the updated password across cluster nodes.

    • Cloud deployments: Cloud provider credentials and access to the target cluster.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the DFUI as an administrator.
  2. Click the All resources tab.
  3. Select the cluster for which you want to update the administrator password.
  4. Under Manage administrator password, click Change password.
  5. In the Change Administrator Password dialog/panel, enter the required information:
    • New Admin Password: Enter the new password for the mapr administrator account.

    • Confirm Password: Re-enter the new password.

    • (On-Premises only) SSH Username: Enter the administrative SSH user account for the cluster nodes.

    • (On-Premises only) SSH Password: Enter the corresponding SSH password (or select the configured private key).

  6. Click Update Password (or Apply).
  7. Confirm the action when prompted.

Post-requisites and next steps

  • All subsequent administrative operations within DFUI and automated lifecycle tasks will use the updated administrator password stored in the vault.
  • Update any external management scripts, scheduled tasks, or external API clients that authenticate using the mapr administrator credentials.
