Installing Polaris

This topic includes instructions for using package managers to download and install Polaris from the Data Fabric Ecosystem Pack (DEP) repository.

Prerequisites

To set up the DEP repository, see Step 11: Install Ecosystem Components Manually.

Consider the following, before proceeding for installation:
  • Data Fabric cluster must be up and running before you start installing the Polaris.
  • You can install Polaris on a node either in a Data Fabric cluster or on a Data Fabric client node.

  • Polaris package is available as follows:
    Package name Description
    mapr-polaris Main Polaris package
  • Polaris works only with Java 21. Ensure that JAVA_HOME environment variable is set correctly.
  • Polaris supports only Ubuntu 22.04 or newer versions.
  • Currently, Polaris supports only PostgreSQL as database.

Installing Polaris

  1. Execute the applicable command with root or sudo:
    OS Command
    On RHEL yum install mapr-polaris
    On SLES zypper install mapr-polaris
    On Ubuntu apt-get install mapr-polaris
  2. Run configure.sh with -R option to complete the configuration
    /opt/mapr/server/configure.sh -R

Polaris Executable

After Polaris is installed, the executable is located at: /opt/mapr/polaris/polaris-<version>/bin/polaris.
