Creating Object Lifecycle Rules on Bucket

On the Data Fabric UI, create lifecycle rules on buckets for the non-versioned and versioned objects contained in a bucket. The object lifecycle rules can be configured on a bucket.

About this task

You can configure one or more object lifecycle rules on buckets. Once the object lifecycle rules are configured on a bucket, the rules apply to all the current and future objects contained in the bucket. See Object Lifecycle for an introduction to the object lifecycle.

Object lifecycle rules can have filters based on object name prefix, tags, and object size. You can configure more than one conditions for the action to be taken.

Use one or more filter types for objects, depending on what filter you wish to set for the lifecycle rule to apply.

For example, if you wish to delete objects starting with 'one' and minimum object size as 10 MB, enter prefix as 'one', and minimum object size as 10 MB.

The following table specifies the suffix to use for the required unit of measurement for object size.

Table 1. Unit of measurement for object sizes
Unit of measurement
KB (Kilobytes)
MB (Megabytes)
GB (Gigabytes)
TB (Terabytes)
PB (Petabytes)
EB (Exabytes)
ZB (Zettabytes)
NOTE
Uncommitted multipart upload rules do not support tags or object size filters as they are incomplete transactions for which the tags and sizes are updated only on completion.
Follow the steps given below to create an object lifecycle rule by using the Data Fabric UI:

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Data Fabric UI.
  2. Click the All resources icon on the left pane, click the table view icon.
  3. Select the Resource details check box.
  4. In the tabular list of fabrics, click the down arrow for the fabric that contains the bucket on which you wish to configure object life cycle rule or rules.
  5. Click the bucket name seen under Resource Name.
  6. Click the Management tab.
  7. Click Create Lifecycle rule.
  8. Enter the Lifecycle rule name.
  9. To create a rule that is applicable to a selected set of objects that meet one or more conditions, select the Limit the scope of this rule using one or more filters option. To create a rule that is applicable to all objects in the bucket, select the Apply to all objects in the bucket option.
  10. If you wish to create a rule for a specific set of objects, enter the prefix, one or more key-value pairs for object tags, the minimum object size and/or the maximum object size, along with the unit of measurement. Use one or more filter types for objects, depending on what filter you wish to set for the lifecycle rule to apply.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select the Actions for the objects in the bucket:
    • Select the Expire current versions of objects check box to expire the current versions of objects. Select the Days after object creation radio button and enter the number of days after which to expire the object, or select the Expiry date radio button and enter a specific date to expire the object.
    • Select the Permanently delete noncurrent versions of objects check box to permanently delete noncurrent versions of objects. Enter the number of Days after objects become noncurrent and Number of newer versions to retain.
    • Select the Abort incomplete multipart upload check box to automatically cancel multipart uploads that do not complete within the specified number of days and permantently remove their uploaded parts to free up storage.
    • Select the Expired object delete marker check box to automatically clean up expired delete markers that no longer have associated versions, freeing up metadata space and improving bucket listing performance.
      NOTE
This action is not available when Expire current versions of objects is enabled.
  13. Click Next to review the rule.
  14. Click Create lifecycle rule to create the object lifecycle rule. The lifecycle rule is enabled on creation.
The object lifecycle rule is created. The rule is visible under the list of lifecycle rules under the Management tab.
