Install Required Data Fabric Software Utilities

Describes the prerequisites for installing the Data Fabric software when deploying it on a hardened OS.

Install the following required utiltities before proceeding with the Data Fabric operating system installation.
  1. Install Wget.
    zypper install wget
  2. Install Java. In this example,we are installing Java version 17.
    zypper install java-17-openjdk java-17-openjdk-devel
  3. Verify the Python version.
    python3 --version
  4. Set UMASK as 022 for mapr and root users.
    • vim /etc/login.defs
    • UMASK-022
    • Change USERGROUPS_ENAB-no

SSH Keys

SSH keys provide a more secure and convenient alternative to password-based authentication.
  1. On the first node in the cluster, create the SSH keys.
    ssh-keygen -t rsa
    cd /root/.ssh
    cat id_rsa.pub >> /root/.ssh/authorized_keys
    chmod 700 ~/.ssh;chmod 640 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys;chmod 600 ~/.ssh/id_rsa
  2. Copy the key to the other nodes in the cluster.
    • ssh-copy-id root@Node2
    • ssh-copy-id root@Node3
    systemctl restart sshd.service
  3. Ensure that the user ID for MAPR is the same in all nodes.
    id mapr
  4. Ensure that the time is synchronized across all nodes. Set the time manually (shown below) or configure the common NTP server on all nodes.
    timedatectl set-time 11:47:00

Configure NTP in SUSE SLES15 SP5

Before proceeding, ensure that the NTP server in the domain is reachable from all nodes.
  1. sudo zypper install chrony
  2. sudo vi /etc/chrony/chrony.conf
  3. Add the NTP Server in the configuration file.
    server <local_ntp_server_IP_or_hostname> iburst
  4. After saving the file, restart the Chrony service to apply the changes.
    • sudo systemctl enable chronyd
    • sudo systemctl start chronyd
  5. Verify the client synchronization.
    chronyc sources -v

Configure /etc/hosts in all nodes

vim /etc/hosts
<IP> <FQDN> Node1
<IP> <FQDN> Node2
<IP> <FQDN> Node3
