Creating a Fabric
Fabrics make it possible for you to create volumes, buckets, and topics in a cloud or on-premises deployment. If your organization has multiple departments or multiple use cases to support, you can create multiple fabrics.
This page describes the basic steps to create a new Fabric for any of the supported fabric providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises).
Before Creating a Fabric
- If you are creating your first fabric, see Installing with a Seed Node. You must use the seed node steps to create your first fabric. For all subsequent fabrics you can use the steps on this page.
- To create a fabric, you must have fabric manager credentials. The Create Fabric button is not displayed for developer and infrastructure admin credentials.
- Currently, only SSO users can create fabrics.
- Always create fabrics one at a time. You cannot create multiple fabrics at the same time.
- Creating an on-premises fabric requires that you provide host nodes before starting fabric creation. These nodes must meet certain requirements. Before creating an on-premises fabric, review Prerequisites for On-Premises Installation.
Steps for Creating a Fabric
- Log on to the Data Fabric UI with Fabric Manager credentials.
- Click the All Resources icon on the left panel.
- Click the Actions dropdown.
- Click Create fabric. The Create fabric side drawer appears.
- Fill in the configuration parameters for the type of fabric you want to create:
- If you wish to opt out of auto-installation of the latest available patch for your Data Fabric version on the fabric, turn off the Apply latest patch toggle. The toggle is on, by default, indicating that the latest patch for your Data Fabric version is auto-installed on the fabric, whenever HPE makes it available to you. This is an optional step.
- If you wish to install EEP components, click the down arrow for Advanced
Settings to view the available auto-provisioning EEP templates. Select the
auto-provisioning template of your choice. This is an optional step.
See EEP Component Installation during Fabric Creation for details about the list of auto-provisioning templates for EEP.
- Click Create.
- To monitor the progress of fabric creation, check the status bar in the
Fabric details dialog box, or click See
details. Fabric creation can take 20 minutes or
more.
If fabric creation fails, you can retry the operation. Click the ellipsis in the Action column, and select Reinitiate.
It is possible for fabric creation to fail because of a host-name resolution issue. See Troubleshooting Seed Node Installation.
If fabric creation continues to fail, and the failure cannot be resolved manually, contact HPE Support.
- When the installation status shows Installed, click the
ellipsis (
) in the Action column, and select View endpoints. The URL for the new fabric is displayed, and you can copy the URL to the clipboard.
